The Association of Corporate Counsel's (ACC) recommendations on general counsel and corporate governance practices were incorporated into the recently released National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) Blue Ribbon Commission on Culture as a Corporate Asset. ACC's thought leadership paper explores how the general counsel can be a key ally in establishing a corporate culture that supports ethical behavior and legal/regulatory compliance. The Blue Ribbon Commission Report picks up on that theme in its recommendation that directors assess whether the general counsel and other key risk management roles are well-positioned within management and in relation to the board to support an appropriate culture. This issue is further discussed in a video by ACC and the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, featuring ACC CEO and President Veta T. Richardson, Gloria Santona, former general counsel of McDonalds, and Ann Mule, associate director of the Weinberg Center.
Lucy Fato, executive vice president and general counsel of AIG, is helping the company return to its place as the leading insurance provider in the world.
